What are automakers doing this week?
While many aspects of the automobile industry are now dead, others of the business are still going strong. The Nurburgring buzzed earlier this week with the sounds of screaming engines and squealing tires during its Industry Pool period. This is when the group of carmakers and industry suppliers leases the track for automotive development. Many companies continue to develop even though the production and showroom facilities have been closed.
Two videos showcase the diverse range of models and makes that crowd the track during Industry Pool Days. It is home to approximately 30 companies, which includes several automakers. Our spy photographers frequently get a glimpse at future models from this organization. Every type of vehicle, from supercars and hatchbacks, is on the track to undergo various development tests. It’s not unusual to see a VW Golf GTI following a Porsche Taycan.
The Monday and Tuesday of this week were no exception. These videos showcase a variety of cars on the track, including the Hyundai i30 and Audi RS3. Other German automakers also produced a lot of cars. BMW, Mercedes, Mercedes – such as the high-wing GT and EQC all electric crossover – VW and Audi were all there, since the Nurburgring is in their backyard.
It’s great to see so many cars at the track. Some of them won’t be on sale for several months. Automakers have a time frame to test the track during Industry Pool periods. Because there is too much traffic, it’s not meant to set lap records. One, there are many vehicles on the track at any one time and not all automakers are testing their peak performance.
