Stock is not available for either of these machines.
Drag racing pits a classic muscle car against a more modern European sports car. These results are quite interesting
This 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS has a lot of stock. The Chevrolet Chevelle SS is powered by a 9.3-liter (565 cubic-inch) V8. It produces a claimed 720 horsepower (537kilowatts). It is GM’s venerable Turbo 400 manual gearbox. It has a nine inch rear differential and 3.89 ratio gears.
Chevrolet’s rival is the 991.2-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S. There are also some modifications. It has a Champion GIAC 93 ECU Upgrade and Tubi Style Cat-Back Exhaust. Otherwise, the powertrain is stock. The video title states that the tweaks make it 650 horsepower (485 kW), instead of 572 HP (427 kW), as stock.
The Chevelle loses the first race but it’s close. The Chevy completes the quarter-mile in 10.67 seconds, at a speed of almost 127 mph (204 km/h). The Porsche runs the quarter-mile in 10.21 seconds, which is almost 134 mph (216 km/h).
The cars line up again for the second race. They will switch sides this time, in order to be fair. We won’t spoil the results so please watch the video to see if the Chevelle can beat the Porsche.
It is amazing how different these cars are but they can run such similar times at the track. The Chevy received a complete engine overhaul, and has more displacement than any stock Chevelle. The Porsche’s biggest improvement is an ECU upgrade.
