However, it is not the fastest sedan in the Green Hell.
AC Schnitzer’s German tuners are on a roll. After setting a record at Sachsenring track, for the fastest sedan in a sedan, they now have the M5 (F90), which is the fastest M5 at the Nurburgring. Jorg Muller was the driver who drove the sedan to the finish line in the Green Hell. It took 7 minutes, 29.50 seconds.
This is 9 seconds faster than the M5 that Sport Auto’s Christian Gebhardt drove back in May. The sedan is not the fastest to lap the Nordschleife, as Jaguar’s track-focused XE SV Project 8 won that title. They lapped the circuit in 7:23 and 21.23.
The M5 has some significant differences to the Jag, which would require a lot more time. However, let’s not forget that the XE is lighter than the Jag and the car broke the record for having rear seats without the Track Pack. We don’t want to make excuses for the BMW. It’s still a supercar with four doors disguised as a luxury sedan.
AC Schnitzer turned up the madness by increasing the power output of the twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8 engine from 515 kilowatts to 691 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters (627 pounds-feet), respectively. This makes it more powerful than the Competition (617 horsepower / 460kW and 750 Nm/ 553 lbft).
The tuner added a powerful rear wing to increase downforce and lightweight 21-inch wheels. A custom KW suspension makes the M5 appear glued to the tarmac.
Tuners will soon be able to get the M5 Competition for even greater performance and it’s not hard to imagine that the record for fastest M5 at Ring will be broken.
