Two German automakers meet in the half mile.
Performance SUVs are often a hot topic within the automotive community. The Germans, among others, have produced some incredible four-door people carriers. Trackday’s most recent YouTube video pits Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe against BMW HTML5 M, X6 X50 and X6 M50 . To see who wins,
We are aware that the Porsche is outperformed by the X5 in terms of power, but we won’t start a huge argument in the comments. The twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 of the Cayenne produces 541 horsepower (403 kilowatts). This is in contrast to the X5M, which has a twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 producing 600 hp (447 kW). Although it might not seem like much, power matters when it comes down to half-mile races.
Contrary to popular drag race videos, there is no roll race between Porsche and BMW. The competition begins at 30 mph (48 km/h). The underdog Cayenne won the first race victory, even though the Bimmer failed to change gears. The X5 M won the race by two cars.
The third and final race saw a BMW X6 M50 guest appearance, but it produced very similar results as the second competition. The X5 M pulled a gap of two cars with relative ease from a standing start.
Although the Bimmer was victorious in the end, it is clear that Porsche won the consolation prize for producing the best exhaust note. Although both BMWs make a pleasant sound, the Cayenne has a more distinctive sound with its grumbly baritone music. We’d love to know which vehicle it is in the comments.
