It took some time to create this video.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been many comparisons between the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500and the Chevy C8. Drag races and circuit battles have been held between these high-powered American sports cars in the past. This is despite the fact that the Mustang competes directly with the Camaro.
The most controversial comparison between the GT500 (and C8) was published early in the year. Motor Trend‘s Randy Pobst published an article comparing the track performance between a Shelby GT500 with Carbon Fiber Track Pack, and a Corvette Stingray 3LT/Z51 Performance Package. However, he did not publish lap times nor a video to back up the claim.
The video for the Motor Trend comparison has been uploaded to YouTube. Although it may have been a while, it’s better late than never. Yes, this is an apples to oranges comparison. However, it’s a useful one if you are looking for a sports car in your price range.
The Shelby GT500’s supercharged V8 engine and huge horsepower gap was quicker on straights than the Corvette, by up to 20 miles per hour, as you can see in the embedded video. The C8’s weight advantage made it faster in corners.
The same driver, the same circuit (Virginia International Raceway), both seem to be very enjoyable. The fastest stock Mustang completed the race in 01:59.68, while the base Corvette Stingray finished at 02:00.96. This was a complete second win for the Cobra-badged Mustang.
It is worth noting that the Shelby’s output leverage makes it seem like the Corvette has a relative advantage. We all know the outcome of this race with either the Z06 or ZR1, as well as the .
Nevertheless, it is possible to compare apples with oranges.
