Watch the 2019 Toyota Supra make a dynamic debut at Goodwood

It’s finally here!

The Toyota Supra has finally made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed after years of speculations, spy photos and renderings. A demonstration run up the hill by a prototype Japanese sports car, called A90, gives hints about its potential.

We can see that the man behind the wheel is not pushing the car to its limits. We can still hear the lovely exhaust sound from the inline six turbo under the hood. Although the final production version is expected to be faster in corners, it’s still a prototype.

Toyota has not revealed the final shape of the Supra and is keeping its body camouflage intact. Although we know much about the engine, it remains a mystery.

According a recent report the new Supra will be powered by a 3.0-liter BMW turbocharged powertrain. It delivers 335 horsepower (250kilowatts), and 369 pound feet (500 Newton-meters), to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox with two clutches. As Chief Engineer Tetsuya Taka confirmed, there will be a GRMN version that delivers more power.

Rumours also suggest that a entry-level model with a turbo 2.0-liter engine rated at 248 horsepower (185 kW), is in the works. The revived sports car with V6 engine will reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds from a standstill, according to unconfirmed information.

We are hopeful that Toyota will finally unveil the Supra in its entirety before the end of the year. Order books should open by next year, with prices starting at $63,500. Enjoy the video below to see the Supra’s first appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
