The revamped Volkswagen Touareg has arrived in Beijing after a long journey of 16,500 km (10,252 mi) from Bratislava, Slovakia, where it was made. The SUV will be the brand’s flagship model in Europe after the Phaeton is gone. However, it won’t be available in the United States because the third generation of the vehicle will not be sold there.
We have compiled a detailed teaser campaign, as well as a lot of spy shots to give you a clear picture of the design. The front fascia is Arteon-inspired and features a sleeker, more modern derriere. We expect an increase in size considering Volkswagen now sells a Tiguan with seven-seats and that the company is trying to separate the two SUVs. Although the exterior may not be as innovative as it could, it is expected that interior changes will make a big difference. The 2019 Touareg will have a 12 inch digital driver’s screen and a 15-inch infotainment screen. It means that some of the traditional buttons and knobs from the center console have been eliminated, making their functions easily accessible via the touchscreen.
There will be V6 gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a larger V8 diesel engine and a more economic plug-in hybrid powertrain. VW will also equip the new Touareg, we know, with its latest air suspension and four-wheel steering. Also, highly advanced LED headlights will be included. The 2019 Touareg will share many similarities with other premium SUVs from VW Group such as the Audi Q8 or the Porsche Cayenne, as it will be riding on the same MLB Evo platform. The improved packaging and longer wheelbase should allow for a healthier weight loss as well as more space in the cabin. The trunk will also increase in size, making the Touareg a more comfortable companion for longer trips.
