This is the closest thing to an SUV Ferrari until the Purosangue.
Although the Stelvio Quadrifoglio just lost the title for the fastest SUV at the Nurburgring, it doesn’t mean that it is any less exciting. This model is still one of the best in its class, thanks to its combination of a Ferrari heart and Alfa Romeo’s new design language. It was curious to see how it performs in real life so someone decided to drive the SUV from Italy to an unrestricted section on the Autobahn in Germany.
The Quadrifoglio is an all-wheel drive variant that comes with the eight-speed automatic transmission. This transmission sends those Ferrari-trained 505 horses to the roads. As the engine revs rise, the twin-turbo V6 2.9-liter sounds fantastic. The SUV was high-performance and took 4.1 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), and 14.2 seconds to go from zero down to 124 (200 km/h).
The speed reached 168 mph in seventh gear. There was still plenty of room to go considering Alfa Romeo claims a top speed at 177 mph (285 km/h). The Stelvio Q’s performance figures aren’t too impressive when compared to a smaller and lighter sports car. The version that we reviewed in May was a substantial 4,360 pounds (1.978 kg). It’s quite a haul.
Although the Stelvio is Alfa Romeo’s only SUV, an official 2018-2022 road map published earlier in the year showed plans for two more crossovers. The Stelvio will produce one smaller and the other larger, while the Stelvio will produce a longer-wheelbase variant that will likely cater to the Chinese market.
