It’s not bad for a product that costs less than $60,000.
Top speed runs are important for supercars. More importantly, a video is just as important as the claim. In fact, the Bugatti Chiron Sport has been recently featured by Top Gear in their own top speed run, albeit in VW’s test track, hitting the electronically-limited top speed of 261 miles per hour (420 kilometers per hour).
However, the 2020 Corvette Stingray is not about to allow its claimed top speed of 194 MPH (312 KPH) to float by without any video.
A video was recorded at the National Corvette Museum’s 25th anniversary presentation. Chief Engineer Tadge Jechter showed a brief video of the C8 mid-engined on its top speed run. Although the entire video is more than an hour long, you can still jump into the action at the 1:00:00 mark by pressing play.
The video shows the test driver and his passenger, along with all the instruments used to measure the Corvette C8’s true power. Juechter explained that the Corvette Stingray’s top speed was determined using precise GPS devices. The 194 mph (or 312 km/h) number was also calculated by flying miles average (both directions) to get a more realistic figure. The German Papenburg test track was used for the top speed run.
Here are the Hottest Things About The Corvette C8
It is important to note that the Corvette Stingray was tested without the Z51 Performance Package. The extra downforce from that option outweighs the extra 5 horsepower (3.7kW), , which reduces the top speed to 184 mph (296 km/h).
This is why, at $58,900, a 194 mph (or 312 kph), car is a great deal. It’s not bad at all.
