This is just amazing.
It is safe to say that the new Mercedes Benz GLS SUV is the most technologically advanced SUV s currently on the market. The new GLE has a revised engine range and a more impressive overall appearance. Smart off-road technologies such as the E-Active Body Control are also available. The 48-volt, battery-powered, hydropneumatic suspension allows the crossover to scan roads and determine damping. It also allows the SUV with seven seats to “jump” out of difficult off-road conditions like sand, rock, and mud.
Although it isn’t a new concept in the industry, it’s quite impressive to see a large and heavy vehicle bounce out of a sand trap. In the video at the top, you can see a group of GLS vehicles doing different types of off-road activities. The SUV gets stuck in the sand at the 3:00 mark. The rocking mode of E-Active body Control is activated by the driver a few seconds later. This causes the vehicle to adjust its suspension levels several times. Finally, the GLS is free to rock itself.
Another interesting feature is displayed in the demonstration. The German luxury sport utility vehicle is equipped with a system that allows each driver to adjust the damping and spring forces at each wheel. The driver can adjust the spring and damping forces at each wheel by lowering the left side of their vehicle and raising the right through the infotainment screen in the center console. This off-road function can be used, for instance, if one of the wheels is stuck in a ditch, or a wheel spring has fully contracted.
The new GLS will be available in the United States at the end of 2019, with prices starting from $75,200 and no $995 destination fees. This price is for the GLS 450 entry-level model, which will be followed by the GLS 580 with V8 engine later in the year.
