It produces over 700 horsepower.
The Chevy Corvette C8 was the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the American sports car. The car’s dynamic has been dramatically altered by the mid-engine layout. This makes it more ripe for tuning. ProCharger is one such aftermarket company that is eager to play with the C8. ProCharger, an aftermarket tuning company, is showing off the world’s first Corvette supercharged to produce over 700 horsepower (521 Kilowatts).
This is a significant increase in power compared to the 6.2-liter LT2’s 495 hp (369 kW). According to ProCharger, the supercharger can be run on pump gas and is bolt-on. Other details regarding how the powertrain produces all that power are still unknown. It has a difficult-to-reach ECU, which makes tuning the car challenging for anyone who needs to modify the engine mapping, gearbox parameters or any other vehicle systems. As Muscle Cars, Truck notes indicate, the ECU is designed to discourage would-be cybercriminals.
The C8’s inexplicable ECU cannot stop tuners forever. Extreme Turbo Systems escaped Chevy’s strict security by creating a “proprietary tuning” solution that turbocharged the Corvette’s mill to make over 700 horsepower. Hennessey, another tuner is attempting to turbocharge the Corvette . He makes 643 horsepower (479 kW). It is not clear if Hennessey cracked the ECU, or has found a way around.
ProCharger did not specify when it would release additional information about its supercharger kits for the C8 Corvette. The company asked that anyone who is interested in the kit follow it on social media to receive more information as it becomes available. It will be released “just around the corner.” Although GM doesn’t want anyone messing with its ECUs for security concerns, tuners, and tinkerers almost always find a way to get around these restrictions. We’ve seen this from other companies.
