A demonstration of expert supercar restoration.
YouTube is filled with videos of supercar crashes. However, it seems that the process of getting from factory fresh to wrecked is often overlooked. These cars aren’t just left to die in a supercar crash. YouTube channel Real Life Exotics shows how to restore a damaged Ferrari 812 vehicle back to its factory condition.
We were surprised at the initial way the vehicle was transported to the repair shop. We expected a Ferrari-branded Ferrari truck with certified technicians to transport the vehicle to the Ferrari dealership. The 812 in the video was lifted using a forklift from an open-air trailer and towed by a pickup truck. Despite the delivery methods, no further damage was seen to the vehicle.
After the vehicle was unloaded, a worker took inventory of all broken parts to determine what could be salvaged. Although many parts could be saved, most were discarded. The next step was apparently to address damage to the front subframe.
Although the video did not have much commentary, it appears that similar-for-like parts were used to replace the front subframe. The car was then reassembled and moved back to an open trailer to be shipped to another facility for body and paint work.
The next step was to prepare for the paint correction process. Petroheads might find this a difficult stage to watch as they go through the process of sanding the paint and massaging the areas that are damaged. The workers then began to repaint the panels. Although it’s difficult to see the actual results of their labor on video, the panels repainted appear to be exactly the same as their factory counterparts.
