After slicing up the X5, there’s no need to worry about crunching it while off-roading.
It’s the best way to make landfills less crowded and also makes it easy to build an off-roader. Russia’s crazy team found a X5 that was broken down and discarded. Instead of throwing it away, they cut it up and welded in a roll cage to create a roofless vehicle for wading in the muddy waters.
The X5 appeared to have taken a lot of damage and was a good target for a paintball gun. The interior was also filthy. The body was then easily sliced by a reciprocating saw using ease. The spacers allowed for the fitting of large wheels that can be rolled over uneven terrain, but it also required cutting the fenders to make clearance.
These guys created a cool off-roader for a small investment. This X5 is capable of handling any terrain, including deep water and ruts. There’s no reason to be concerned about the vehicle’s safety if the rear fascia falls off. The BMW will look even more slut afterward.
The video below gives a more detailed look at the build. Although it’s only in Russian, the last half of the video shows the X5 taking more punishment on an offroad course.
It will take many years for anyone to be able find an old example of the fourth-generation X5, and do such extensive repairs on the SUV. For several months, the new model won’t be in showrooms. Those who want to get down and dirty can order the optional Off-Road Package which includes underbody protection, air suspension, an electronically controlled rear differential lock and driving modes that prepare the system for snow, rock, gravel and other types of terrain.
