The incident allegedly occurred at a charity event.
These two sources are the basis of what we know. The Pennsylvania-based Charity hosted its annual Supercar Show in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, June 6. This event features hundreds of supercars and high performance rides, making stops around Philly and taking special cruises. The crux is a cool car show that raises funds for charity. Supercars can be seen on the roads and highways. The local police offer assistance by providing escorts or even brief road closures.
FerrariChat reports that the accident occurred during the morning charity drive. To allow supercars to stay together, police temporarily closed one section of highway. This also left the highway open for drivers to use. 06VistaBlueGT claims officers don’t care about speed and suggest that drivers make haste so that they don’t have the road closed for too long. This is an untrue secondhand story. However, it would be reasonable to maintain a safe and reasonable speed. Motor1.com was unable to verify any of the circumstances and events beyond what can be seen on video.
It seems that the supercars were either too fast or turned loose too quickly. After speeding up too fast on a slower car, the empty highway gives way to scattered traffic. The Ferrariswerves and hits a Pista. It then hits a 458, which hits an unknown commuter vehicle, before coming to rest. There were no injuries, but the 488 was going faster than other cars on the road.
From an insurance perspective, we doubt that things could get any worse for the driver of 488. It could have been a multi-million-dollar claim, and the insurance company might be interested in seeing the video. Moral of the story: Keep safe and be smart out there, even when you’re driving on an open road with plenty of encouragement to push the throttle.
