It looks faster if it weren’t for the limiter.
What is the speed of a Toyota Supra? If you take what the Japanese automaker has set for the car, you should only expect 155 miles per hour (249 kilometers per hour) from the sports coupe, which is the electronically-limited top speed.
Sometimes, however, the numbers on the spec sheet are not accurate. This Toyota Supra was tested on the German Autobahn’s unrestricted section. It reached a top speed at 163 mph (263 km/h), or 262 km/h, if you believe the GPS device that was used. The video was uploaded by Cars at Autobahn and embedded at the top of this page. It was quite cool that the driver was able to see the top speed run from his point of view. This gives him a good view of the road while trying to do the high-speed run.
It’s not the first time we have seen the Supra surpass its speed limiter during a top speed run. We’ve also seen an similar test over a year ago that showed the same results at 263 km/h.
Both are the original Supras with 335 horsepower (399 Newton-meters) and 368 poundfeet (399 kilowatts).
The new Toyota Supra (A91), with the 2021 model year, is already in production and will be available on dealer lots by the end of June or July. The significant performance increase to this updated model is a jump to 382 horsepower (285 kW) and the same amount torque. These new figures will allow the 2021 Supra’s output to surpass the one you see in the video.
A four-pot 2.0 version with a lower price will be available, as well. This is a way to appeal to those who don’t want to spend too much on a Toyota sports coupe.
