So. much. detail.
Few vehicles are more iconic than the Volkswagen bus. The Type 1 and Type 2 models are the most iconic. Now, the Type 2 is immortalized as a wooden replica of a 1976 pickup. It’s also epic in every way.
Another creation by Woodworking Art, this one is not lacking in detail. Extreme detail is what we’re referring to, from the Type 2’s familiar head to the door locks hand-chiseled into tiny door handles. It starts with a single block and a diagram of the vehicle. From there it is a fast-paced trip to the final product. It’s much more than that.
This video is a great example of how it’s important to keep videos such as this short. Our attention spans are shorter in 2021, but this video shows just how much time and effort goes into creating this model. For the more complex steps, such as cutting out interior space, power tools are used. However, the intricate work can be done using a hammer or various-sized chisels. This video doesn’t do justice to the talent and detail required.
At the 1:38 mark, we can see that the Type 2’s tiny fender lips are being drawn by hand onto a flat body. This is impressive enough, but we then learn why the outlines were drawn there. These are not guides to glue fenders on. Instead, the surrounding material is removed . This refers to the entire side . Although we can’t see it, the process is repeated on the opposite side. The fenders appear to be part of the body, not an accessory. They are actually part of the body. It is amazing to see how long it took to complete this process, and the same goes for the rest of van.
This one is similar to the other wood-carved creationswe have featured. It rides on a functional suspension. The pickup bed opens, the doors and tailgate fold down, and the engine is hand-carved from wood at the back. Amazing.
This VW was created for a friend, according to the video description. We hope that the friend is pleased with the final product.
