It is understandable that these conditions are not ideal.
Many consider the M2 version BMW the best, and the Competition is the 1M Coupe spiritual successor that enthusiasts have been waiting for. This is the M2 version with optional dual-clutch seven speed automatic transmission. It was put through its paces during acceleration with launch control activated to ensure maximum performance.
Some might think the M2 Competition is a bit slow, as it took just under five seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a stop. This was 0.8s less than the BMW specs sheet for DCT models. The difference becomes apparent when you consider winter tires and the damp road. This is especially true for rear-wheel-drive cars, as the car’s traction suffers during acceleration in less than ideal conditions. Although 4.97s isn’t too bad, it did have a full tank of gasoline which had an adverse effect on its performance.
We also find some interesting numbers based on the smartphone app. The M2 was able to go from 62 mph (100.6 kph), to 124 (200 kph), and completed the quarter-mile in 12.79 seconds. After 1.3 miles (2.2 km) of sprint, the data logger registered the car at 262 kph (163 MPH).
The M2 Competition may seem slow to you, but a faster version is available at a lower price. According to recent reports, the CS will be the next generation’s swan song. It is expected to have more power and a lighter body than the previous generation.
