He intends to keep it for all time.
A Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser stationwagon played a prominent part in That’s Show, appearing in the opening credits and showing Eric Forman’s driveway often in scenes. Wilmer Valderrama (the character of Fez) shared his story on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Valderrama just went to the props section during the last season to ask what the cost of the Vista Cruiser. Initial attempts by the person in charge to convince Valderrama not to buy the Vista Cruiser were unsuccessful. After resisting and saying “I need the Vista Cruiser”, the man offered it to him at $500.
Valderrama describes the car as “the best thing I have ever gained from my entire career.” It reminds Valderrama of when he was young and booked That 70s Show. This series was his biggest break, with 200 episodes spread over eight seasons.
Valderrama intends to keep the Vista Cruiser for life and wants to leave it to his children in his will. The car will then be an antique, and it will likely be a sight to see as it travels down the road, likely surrounded with future self-driving cars.
The Vista Cruiser is a reminder that the Vista Cruiser was built in an era when the station wagon was still the most popular means of family hauling, decades before crossovers and minivans took over. Oldsmobile’s unique gimmick was the raised glass panel on the roof that covered the second row of seats, and additional glass at the top of the cargo area. This resulted in more natural light for those who were riding in the back, which was usually children.
