Winter is coming: Audi Quattro meets BMW xDrive in Snow Test

This is the debate that has been around for as long as time.

You’ve probably heard of the all-wheel-drive dispute between Audi Quattro and BMW xDrive. Many videos online claim to answer the question of which German AWD system works best, but none seem to be objective. Another clip has been found that might finally end the argument.
This information comes from Tyre Review on Youtube. They decided to install identical Nokian tires on two BMW 3 Series cars and one Audi A4 Qtro in order to compare their performance on snow and ice. For good measure, the two German sedans were joined by a Jaguar XE.

BMW Versus Audi

“Following the 4WD vs. Winter tire video last year, in which everyone said I was an idiot for using my BMW, and that I should have used the Audi AWD system, I decided to try and prove that there is no difference between the systems.” This video should help in any future Quattro vs. xDrive debates,” Jonathan Benson, Tyre Review, explains his idea.

Important to note is that the Audi and BMW tires are the same in this video. The Jag uses slightly different rubber. All three cars have close power-to weight ratios, and all three have automatic transmissions. We also want to point out that the Bimmer has less torque.

Here are the top reasons winter tires are necessary:

Let’s get testing. Tire Reviews‘ evaluations start with a snow-traction test, or simply a drag race on the snow. The third test involves the three sedans being placed on a frozen lake to compete in standing-start duels. The next test is a snowy hill climb race between the BMW and Audi. Finally, the snowy handling course is run around to determine which one is the fastest and most enjoyable.
