Witness the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series’ Brutal Acceleration

The badge is a sign of business.

Like its predecessors, the Black Series badge is back and it packs a punch. Seven years ago, the SLS AMG was the last Black Series car. The brand’s new 2021 AMG GT Black Series feels long overdue. The successor is worthy too. It boasts a twin-turbocharged V8 and aggressive aerodynamics, which add to its intimidating appearance and brutal performance.

The new car’s acceleration is demonstrated in a new video by the Automann-TV YouTube channel. Flat-plane crank V8 of 4.0-liters produces 730 horsepower (544 Kilowatts) as well as 590 pound-feet (890 Newton-meters). This is filtered through an upgraded seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. The GT R has a significant increase in power – 153 horsepower (114 kW) and 74.3 lb-ft (100% more). This extra power also means faster acceleration times.

The AMG GT Black Series hits 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds and rockets past 124 mph in 8.8 seconds. The supercar took 5.4 seconds to go from 62 mph down to 124 mph. The big wing adds 880 lbs of downforce to the supercar at 150 mph (241 km/h). These are remarkable numbers, even though the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires (which wrap around 20-inch rear wheels and 19-inch front wheels) struggled to find traction.

In 2006, the first Black Series car was delivered. The badge quickly became a symbol for the brand. Customers and competitors knew that the AMG was serious business. Only certain cars could sport the badge, which meant only two-door models with more power and performance. This package is not cheap. Mercedes doesn’t have a US price for the Black Series. However, it is available in Europe starting at EUR335,240 (roughly $394,000 today at current exchange rates).
