The system can store skis, coolers, bikes, and other items.
The trailer hitch has evolved to more than to tow a trailer. Many companies offer cargo attachments that increase the vehicle’s capabilities. Yakima’s new system is one of those. The company announced the new EXO double-decker cargo platform. It is very functional and offers two levels of storage, with tons of customization.
EXO SwingBase is the key to the entire system. It fits any standard 2-inch trailer hitch. It holds all the EXO parts. The EXO SwingBase also features articulating arms which allow the system’s rear to swing out of the back, opening the hatch. Although the EXO TopShelf gives the system two levels of storage it is only one attachment from the company.
Yakima offers many cargo storage options, such as the GearLocker which provides similar functionality to its roof-mounted cargo container. EXO GearToes are lightweight nylon bags that can carry 50 pounds. The EXO DoubleUp is the best part. It can attach to the SwingBase, TopShelf, and can carry up to two bikes. This system allows the GearLocker and GearWarrior to fit under it, which can carry bulkier items such as a cooler or firewood. The SnowBank stores skis, while the EXO BackDeck provides a surface for cooking and tinkering.
You don’t have to load a lot of cargo on the back. Although trailer hitches can hold a lot of weight, too much cargo could cause problems with the vehicle’s handling. If you don’t want to be pulled over, make sure your taillights are not blocked. Yakima offers an EXO LitKit, which attaches to your SwingBase arms. This helps to keep the vehicle legal.
