According to a new report, Yamaha plans to produce the SPORTS RIDE CONCEPT.

The Yamaha SPORTS Ride Concept was undoubtedly the star of this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Now, we hear it might actually be possible. It is expected to debut in preproduction form at the same show in less than two years. The concept could be on the assembly line by the end of 2017 or early 2018, depending on when it happens.

The concept was very small, measuring 3900mm in length, 1720mm in width, and 1170mm high. Yamaha expects to curb weight the production car at 750 kg (1.653 lbs). Yamaha will tone down the exterior design to make it more suitable for production cars. The interior will largely be the same as the concept.

Yamaha has not yet revealed the powertrain of the SPORTS RIDE CEPTION, but this rumor suggests that a turbocharged 1.5-liter motor will power the final version. The sportscar is lightweight and compact, making it a unique offering in this market.

Yamaha will set a starting price below 70,000 AUD (or EUR51,000/PS35,900) according to the same report.
