It will be just like 1968.
If you mention the name Yenko to a passionate Camaro fan, they will be elated. The name was worn by some of the most powerful Camaros in the 1960s. Even though classic Camaros are rare and costly today, enthusiasts might be able to purchase a new Yenko Camaro with all the characteristics of the original.
General Marketing Capital currently holds the rights to the licensing rights for Yenko. This means that the name can be found on modern Camaro cars. General Marketing Capital has partnered with Brand New Muscle Car this year to create brand-new 1968 Yenko Camaros to celebrate 50 years of Yenko Camaros. According to General Motors Authority, the new Camaro cars, or classics, will be built custom and licensed. This means that they will be added the Official Yenko Worldwide Registry.
Although the news is exciting, the GMAuthority.com Report has few details. The price will be in the low six-figures, if not higher. The 450-horsepower, 427-cubic inch V8 engine should drive the car. This is the same engine that made the Yenko Camaro so popular.
General Motors restricted the engine size that the Camaro could have, which is why the 427-ci engine was the Yenko calling card. Don Yenko, a Pennsylvania-based Yenko Chevrolet, believed customers would demand more and began putting larger V8 engines under the hood. The engine’s power output was over 400ci. They say the rest is history.
It will be great to have new 1968 Yenko Camaro models. It is easy to license the name to a company that will take modern-day Camaros and add branding and badges. However, recreating those 1968 Yenko Camaros is a true tribute to Yenko’s famous Camaro muscle cars.
