Each Speedtail owner can get one.
Richard Mille is known for making high-end watches at six- to seven-figure retail prices. The company’s most recent project is a partnership for McLaren on a timepiece that will be available for wealthy customers of the Speedtail. Only 106 units of the RM 40-01 Speedtail watch are available. This is the same amount that McLaren is making.
Richard Mille watches have a unique overall design that reveals the internal workings of the watch and incorporates them into the visual appearance. The RM40-01 is no exception. The Speedtail’s exterior design inspired the teardrop shape. The machine’s air outlets are visible to the pusher at the side.
There are 69 parts to the case. The case has titanium bezel and carbon fibre for the caseband. They offer a range of finishes including satin and mirror polished. Because of the triple contour design, which tapers inwardly, the crystal covering the face took 18 month to perfect.
Richard Mille’s Tourbillon movement is used in the RM40-01. This means that the escapement, balance wheel and other components are housed within a rotating cage. It is the first time that the power reserve indicator has been used by the company. It is located at 9 o’clock and features red, orange and green sections that indicate whether the watch must be wound. The date window can be found at 12 o’clock.
Biwi SA’s asymmetrical rubber strap is included with the timepiece. It is made from an over-molded material and features a McLaren orange accent at the 6 o’clock position of the watch face.
