The engine is a British sports coupe that was never built.
It is also a rare V10. It is a Connaught Type D Syracuse GT and only 2.0-liters in displacement. It produces around 200 horsepower (149kilowatts) and more than 230 hp (172 kW) when supercharged, which is what this engine might be when it’s finished. The engine is similar to the Volkswagen VR6 engine. It has a narrow angle between the pistons so that only one head is available, as opposed to two with other V-configuration powerplants.
This video is mainly about removing the second-gen Miata’s powertrain so that the V10 can be installed. The body and all remaining mechanical parts will be fully restored before the installation of the new powerplant. After that, the owner will ship their car to be fitted with the new powertrain.
It will be a fascinating story. It will be the first V10 Miata with a Connaught engine and may be the most unique.
Watch the video below to find out more about Tim Bishop. He is the man behind the Type D engine and the V10 engine. The car didn’t come to fruition because of lack of funds, he says. This powerplant was originally designed to provide hybrid assistance. It was innovative even by 2000 standards.
You can also see the engine running in this clip. The engine block is not visible in the latest video. The head can be seen on the stand. It can also be seen the complex intake and exhaust arrangement.
