Edition 1 means that the sedan is loaded with goodies.
The CLS, a more elegant and luxurious version of the EClass is a high-end sedan. It attempts to resemble a coupe thanks to its steep roofline. The CLS has been in existence since 2005, and is now in its third generation. Like most Mercedes models, early adopters have the option to dig deeper and purchase the Edition 1 model. This edition is usually available only in its first year of production.
One of these limited-run ClS cars was the subject for a POV video by AutoTopNL. The version he was able to drive was the 450 4Matic with mild hybrid powertrain. It’s actually the beefiest Mercedes-Benz-branded CLS money can buy considering the 53 is labeled as a Mercedes-AMG. The new inline-six turbocharged 3.0-liter engine is under the hood. It delivers 362 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet (500 Newton meters) of torque. An electric motor-generator (EQ Boost), which delivers an additional 21 hp (250 Nm), and 184 lbft (250 nm) to the combustion engine, is also available.
The video does not only show the engine and its sweet sound, but also gives a close-up look at what it is like to drive the new CLS. The interior is a bit familiar, having been largely taken from the E-Class. However, it’s still very elegant.
This Edition 1 version has everything you need in a Mercedes other than the flagship S-Class. It starts as an AMG Line interior, but it then gets a Nappa-wrapped dash, ash wood trim and glossy black surrounds. There’s also extended ambient lighting with illuminated vents in 64 different colors.
The CLS Edition 1 bundles the mirror, memory and analog clock as standard. There are many “Edition 1” logos all over the cabin and on the home screen of the infotainment system.
We don’t see much exterior but it is worth noting that the AMG Line also has 20-inch multispoke AMG wheels with standard Multibeam LED headlights and Multibeam AMG wheels. The front fenders are proudly covered with an “Edition 1” badge.
The electrified Mercedes AMG CLS 53 is a great option for something more powerful. The GT 4-Door Coupe, which is based on E63 Wagon, might be the perfect choice if you want something sportier.
