This is more an evolutionary approach to major renovations.
The Honda CR-V will be getting a new generation overhaul soon. We’ve seen a prototype in Europe earlier this year. The Kolesa team attempted to remove the camouflage from the prototype to create this rendering. This gives us a fictional preview for the sixth-generation compact crossover.
We’ve tried to create renderings for the next-gen Honda CR-V back April. Kolesa‘s version is geared toward an evolutionary approach to design and not what we envision as a radical change.
To start, Kolesa‘s new CR-V reduces the model’s dimensions and adds the new grille from the prototype. It has a trapezoidal grille with slim headlights, as you will see on the Honda Passport. Although the website suggests a higher sill, the rear appears to have remained the same, we agree that Honda will not change the design of the vertical taillights in the sixth-generation model.
We couldn’t help but be dissatisfied with the proportions. The prototype is a tall hood with overhangs. This indicates an increase in size. However, it’s not evident in the rendering you see here. It is not clear if this will result in an additional row for the US-spec CR-V, although it is possible since it is available with seven seats in other markets.
Both our and Kolesa’s versions of the engine are fictional. Expect the real thing will be very different from these mockups. The powertrain is not known, but it will be electrified using a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
For the 2023 model year, the next-generation Honda CR-V will be unveiled in 2022. We can expect more prototype sightings towards the end of the year or early next year. These should provide more information about the new design.
