We were told by Hyundai a while back that a new twin-turbo V6 motor was in development for the Genesis lineup. Now we know the engine will be a 3.3-liter displacement. The motor was mounted in a KDM-spec test vehicle for the next-gen Genesis Coupe. It also featured an all-wheel drive layout as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission, according to the sticker.
This engine is likely to replace the naturally-aspirated V8 5.0-liter. According to Hyundai, it will produce about the same 420 horsepower (313 kW), but weigh significantly less. According to The Korean Car Blog, the motor will be available for production by the end of 2017. It is currently being developed in the N Performance division. However, they also claim that the motor’s output could be as high as 480 bhp (358kW), although this is not yet confirmed.
The next generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe will get a turbo-six and an improved four-cylinder turbo for its entry-level rear-wheel drive model. For the mid-range version, the familiar 3.8-liter V6 normally-aspirated mill will be available.
