Interiors should be given a complete overhaul.
The Mercedes E-Class has just received a facelift in time for the 2021 model-year. However, the automaker is already working on the next generation. We now have the first glimpse of the sixth-generation E-Class sedan from southern Europe. However, Mercedes has kept it hidden under a camouflage wrap. A few details peek through, however, that give an indication of the model’s new styling direction.
The new E-Class won’t arrive in 2023 or 2024. This means that Mercedes could take months to remove the camouflage. The front-end styling is evolutionary, with a familiar-looking grille and what appears to be the production headlights. Although the wrap conceals a lot of the car’s features, we can see that the bumper has some sculpted styling at the lower grille intake openings. This could be cladding that hides the bumper’s styling, or it could be something entirely.
It is harder to see the rear, as only a small portion of the taillights can be seen through the camo. We can’t see any exhaust outlets and the rear bumper has changed in shape. The E-Class interior will be redesigned and should follow the trend of other Mercedes models with large screens and lots more technology. It is clear that the E-Class interior will be a good match for the C Class and S-Class models in the brand’s lineup.
Mercedes has updated the model’s powertrain lineup in conjunction with the current generation’s mid cycle refresh. The new model could also feature additional changes and refinements. It’s not clear at this time what these could be. The all-electric EQE was introduced earlier in the year. This expands Mercedes’ EV range, but the new E-Class should have a wide variety of engines, including hybrids and powerful AMG models. It’s not possible to know when Mercedes will unveil it. However, the AMG versions will most likely be available sometime after the standard model’s launch.
