The brand’s most popular model is getting a new look.
Spy photos of the next-generation Mercedes Benz GLC SUV have shown very little. Mercedes kept this important model under thick camouflage, cladding, allowing us to wonder about its design. Unofficial renderings by Kolesa.ru help to bring the new SUV to life.
These renderings showcase an SUV that is a little more subtle than its predecessor, but not much. This rendering incorporates the C-Class’ front-end design onto a larger vehicle. They share the same Modular Rear Architecture of the automaker, so it’s not surprising that there will be some common styling elements. The new platform will make the GLC lighter than its predecessor and stiffen the chassis.
With a pair of similar trapezoidal taillights, the GLC’s rear ends continue the C-Class theft. They are located above a reserved bumper, and the lower valance houses the dual exhaust tips. This new platform will allow the GLC to add electrification to its powertrains. Although a variety of diesel and gas-powered engines are expected to be installed by the company, most will also get hybrid electrification. The next-generation SUV will have a powertrain family of four-cylinder units. This includes the AMG variant.
Although there are no interior renderings available, we expect Mercedes will heavily rely on the new C–Class interior as inspiration. The two platforms are mates. The GLC may get the S-Class-like infotainment screen, with separate screens for the instrument cluster. Even though sales dropped from 2019, the GLC was still the brand’s most popular vehicle in 2020. Mercedes is certain that the GLC will continue to be a success with the next-generation model. This should happen later in the year or early next.
