Next-Generation BMW X3 Revealed For the First Time. Could Arrive in 2024

The compact SUV seems to have a bigger grille and may be slightly larger overall.

Our spy teams captured the successor to the current-generation BMW X3 in action, despite it only receiving a minor facelift in 2022. Two prototypes of the next-generation BMW X3 were captured on camera by BMW crews as they unloaded them from a covered trailer. This gave us an early glimpse of the new model.

The main takeaway from this is that BMW will continue to use a conservative styling approach. This is the X3’s form, even though it has been camouflaged with placeholder lights and fake panels. Zooming in on your nose, you can see that the grille will grow slightly. It will dip lower into the fascia but not as much as the 4Series. The grille should reach the kidneys through the holes below the skin. While we are there, let’s shift our attention to the corners of fascia. What appears to be round holes can be seen, possibly for driving lights that are set over slimmer corner vents.

Also, we have a clear picture of the X3 From the side, it appears slightly longer to our eyes. Although it could just be camo, we can see the altered body lines in comparison to the current model. The door handles are lower and the C-pillar appears thinner. It’s hard to see details at the rear. We know that the taillights are temporary placeholders, but the quad exhaust tips indicate this is an M40i model.

The interior is not visible to our photographer, so we don’t know what’s going on. You won’t be surprised to find a cockpit that is largely glass, similar to the BMW and packed with the most recent technology. The X3 package will include electric power, with both pure EV and plug-in hybrid models. For serious performance, the next X3M could use both gasoline and electric power.

We are catching the next-generation model of the X3 very early in its public testing phase, considering that the current X3 has just had a facelift. The debut of the next-generation model is expected to be over a year away, and possibly not until 2024.
