Could this be the brand’s last model that is powered by combustion?
Mini will be a fully-electric automaker by the 2030s. Mini will unveil its last combustion engine-powered car in 2025. The brand confirmed that the Mini-Convertible will be available until at least the end, contrary to earlier reports.
“The Mini Convertible enjoys a loyal following. This can be seen in the high demand for the most recent model. “We are therefore firmly convinced that this vehicle concept will succeed in the future,” Bernd Corber, the Mini brand head, said.
Mini claims that the development of the Mini Convertible’s successor is “a done deal”, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the car will be ready for launch. The current-gen model still has at least two to 3 years of useful life, and the successor isn’t even being tested on public roads. Mini will most likely say that the new model is approved for production in 2025.
According to the British manufacturer, the Convertible is very popular in Germany. It’s followed by the US market and Great Britain. The brand believes that the replacement announcement of the current model will “cause a sensation.” Korber says that almost five out of five Mini customers chose open-top driving last year. This demonstrates the enthusiasm of Mini customers for a future vehicle concept such as this.”
It will be interesting for us to see if the four-seater, open-top car in the premium small car segment, will receive an all-electric version when the vehicle arrives in 2025. Mini could opt to keep the old-fashioned combustion engine in the next-generation cabriolet, given the extra weight of a convertible model compared to a similar coupe model. It could be the last model Mini will use to be powered by combustion.
