It isn’t the radical design overhaul you may be seeking.
This is your first opportunity to see the next-gen Subaru Webster WRX. It looks very much like the current one. We’d be sorry if you think this is a major refresh.
The WRX’s front has a lower-slung nose that the current model due to a sloping hood. The upper section has a hexagonal grille and a crossbar. Large, oval-shaped openings are found in the mesh. The lower fascia has a narrow opening. In the corners, tiny foglights can be seen.
The new WRX’s sides have large windows that offer a fantastic view outward. Vents are located at the rear of the front wheel wells. The flared rear fenders are subtle.
Subaru engineers may have hidden a spoiler under the rear deck, as there is a raised section. The current WRX’s taillights are more angular than the current WRX. Each side of the rear bumper features a vertical vent. This vent is either functional or a design feature. Each side has dual exhausts.
According to reports, the new WRX uses a version from the FA24 2.4-liter turbo-four engine. Subie offers this engine in three Legacy and Outback models. It produces 260 horsepower (194 Kilowatts) as well as 277 pound-feet (376 Newton meters) of torque. The sporty model might need some tuning to increase its output. Rumours suggest that the next-gen STI could get a 400-hp (298 kW) version of the mill.
According to a report, the new WRX would debut in 2020 according to a 2019 report. But that was before COVID-19 caused havoc in the auto industry. Now, an unveiling in 2021 seems more likely.
