Nissan 370Z Sales are so bad that GT-R is almost twice as popular

Both are not selling well, but the new Z cannot arrive soon enough.

The Nissan 370Z is making its final steps as a brand new vehicle. Nissan only sold 28 Z coupes in the first three months 2021. That’s not an error. This is 28. That’s a 95% drop in sales compared to last year. Ouch.

Technically, the sports car should still exist. Although we don’t know how many cars remain, Nissan stated that the 2020 model-year 370Z would be available into 2021. Nissan confirmed that 28 was accurate and explained that there is a greater inventory than there are newer models. It means that the much older Nissan GT-R has outsold the 370Z almost two-to-one. Although only 50 GT-Rs were sold in the same time period, it is still a strong lead.

Although Nissan’s older performance cars are not performing well on dealer lots anymore, the Japanese automaker has reason to smile. The combined sales of Infiniti and Nissan in the US increased 10.8 percent compared with last year. When separated, we see that Nissan was up 14.8 percent. The outlook is not as bright for Infiniti which saw a sharp 25.4 per cent drop in sales compared to 2020. It’s worth noting that COVID-19’s impact on auto sales was only apparent in Q1 2020. This is a notable increase for Nissan.

The Rogue is still Nissan’s saving grace. The SUV was able to sell 86,720 units through Q1 2021. This is almost as many as all Nissan cars combined. The Sentra, which is the second-best-selling Nissan, has a sales number of 37,238. Both cases have good news as they both experienced strong year-over–year growth. Rogue sales grew by a healthy 45.2 percentage while Sentra sales grew 55.9 percent. The updated styling and tech features for Nissan’s small sedan , which was introduced for the 2020 model year, seem to have been well received by buyers.

All eyes now turn to the 370Z’s replacement. The 400Z was originally thought to be the new model, but the latest rumors suggest that it will be called simply the Z. The 370Z’s heart and many of its features will be carried over to the new vehicle. Buyers looking for Nissan power will be reenergized by the new styling and cockpit. If the rumors about a starting price of less than $35,000 are true, this could be the best value performance bargain of the year.
