What’s the next step for Godzilla?

Nissanhas been relaunched as the Z. There are still rumors about the next-generation GTR. The Japanese automaker is determined to keep the high-tech supercar’s wow factor.

Ivan Espinosa (senior vice president of global product planning at Nissan) stated that the GT-R’s goal is to be a performance machine again. This is the same way the GT-R was even after many years. It’s still a highly credible, super-fast and great car to drive, and we will keep that in mind.”
Rumours suggest that the next Godzilla, which is expected to be released in 2023, will have a gas-electric drivetrain and a kinetic energy recuperation system. These systems were inspired by the automaker’s endurance racing competitors. This vehicle is more likely to materialize than the race car that failed and the car’s performance at the 2015 24-Hours of LeMans, where only one car finished, suggests that it has a better chance of succeeding.

The Circuit de la Sarthe’s push for glory was a memorable one, but Gibson has had great success building engines for motorsport. The R36 will most likely feature a more powerful version of the twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter V6 that produces a reported 710 horsepower (530 kilowatts) as well as 575 pound-feet (780 Newton-meters) of torque.

Espinosa stated that the GT-R and the Z and Patrol are “perhaps the most iconic and brand representative namesplates that we’ve as a company, which have a deep historical background within the company.”

It’s evident that Nissan is eager to get the new GT-R on the production line, despite the semantics. Espinosa seemed to like the extra weight of the hybrid systems, but the numbers don’t lie so let’s wait and see.
