You were not thinking about squatters rights.
“Carolina Squat” is an interesting term in the automotive industry. The trend is inspired by the long-travel suspension of Baja Trophy Trucks. It involves truck owners raising the front suspension and lowering it at the rear. This provides the same squat as desert racers to provide extra compliance during aggressive suspension compressions. It allows the rear wheels to strike first following a jump.
North Carolina has recently introduced legislation to stop this unusual trend. The bill prohibits raising the front suspension by more than 3 inches and lowering it by more than 2 inches. Although the exact reason behind the bill is not known, we believe that visibility and the angle of the headlights played a part in its creation.
Although it is sometimes called the Carolina Squat the actual origin of the trend was on the Baja California Peninsula where races such as the Baja 1000 are held. The latest trend, however, is not practical for road vehicles. Road-going vehicles do not have to travel over 100 miles an hour, despite obvious safety concerns.
It’s important that the factory-built high-performance trucks do not have as much suspension travel. Hot rods such as the F150 Raptor or RAM TRX have the same ride height at both ends. We’ve seen both trucks take incredible jumps with no issues.

A Reddit account about this trend shows multiple instances where Carolina Squatters have caused damage to stationary vehicles they couldn’t see. Although details are scarce, it appears that the trend has gained popularity after being popularized on Instagram.
