Official: Cadillac CT5V Blackwing Engines will be Handbuilt

One motor to one person

It is a well-known fact, that the Cadillac CT5V Blackwing super-sedan will be powered by GM’s supercharged 6.2 liter V8. The LT4 units of the CT5-V Blackwing’s engine will be made by hand, as opposed to other passenger cars. Each unit will receive the same craftsmanship by a single operator at the Performance Build Center at GM Bowling Green in Kentucky.

The General Motors small-block LT4 has been around for a while. Most gearheads know this. It has been used previously in hot rods like the Cadillac CTSV sedan, Chevy Corvette C7 Z06 and the Chevy Camaro ZL1. It is even expected to make an appearance on the Cadillac Escalade V. The Blackwing’s hand-built unit will have 668 horsepower (498 megawatts) and 659 pounds-feet (893 newton meters) of torque.

This means that each engine has a single builder. GM machined a small area on the supercharger lid to house the name plaque. Although it might seem like a car party trick, this adds a personal touch to every vehicle.

The Cadillac is the most powerful Cadillac ever made . It can accelerate to 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds. GM Authority reports the Blackwing’s top speed will be around 200 mph (322 km/h).

Although it is not clear what setup was used for these benchmark times customers can choose a GM 10-speed automatic or a Tremec six-speed manual. Potential buyers will have the option to select a Brembo carbon-ceramic brake system and an aero package made of carbon fiber. Prices start at $84,990 MSRP, and maximum at $125.980 for every option selected.
