Officially Confirmed: Lancia Delta Return As EV In 2026

Two years earlier, a new generation of Ypsilon will be available.

Three years ago, the Italian company Automobili Amos revived the Lancia Delta Integrale to be a hot hatch, but at a high price. We are pleased to report that Lancia has serious plans for the nameplate’s future. It will be back as a production model in 2026. We aren’t kidding.

It’s not a rumor. Luca Napolitano , the new CEO at Lancia, gave Corriere dilla Sera a recent interview in which he confirmed that the Delta will be reborn in approximately four years. Everyone wants the Delta, and it must be included in our plans. It will return, and it will be a true Delta. An exciting car, a manifesto for progress and technology. It will also be electric, Napolitano stated to the Italian publication.

Details are not available at this time, but it makes sense that Lancia would use an existing platform in the Stellantis portfolio to build the new Delta. This will likely be an evolution from the architecture that was known as the eVMP during the PSA era and will eventually evolve into the STLA Medium. Corriere della Sera speculates the underpinnings could allow for the use of solid state batteries that can provide a range of up 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge.

However, Lancia will replace the Ypsilon model with a new version of the Delta before it launches. This supermini, which is already 10 years old, is only available in Italy. It will be replaced by the Lancia supermini in 2024. This will be the last Lancia model to have an internal combustion engine. The Italian automaker will only sell electric vehicles by 2026 and will target customers who are older than average.

In the interview, Napolitano stated that “We will build cars with an immense sense of responsibility towards our world, as our customers desire a clean drive, the revolution towards pure electrical is in line with the tradition of great technological innovation.” Lancia is also expected to retake the European automotive market, creating a new dealership network and collaborating with existing Alfa Romeo DS and DS dealers.
