Officially Rated by EPA at 42 MPG in City – 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid

It is even more efficient than was previously thought.

It was also the first truck to have a standard hybrid powertrain in America. The all-new Maverick was unveiled by Ford in June. It boasted a EPA-estimated 40 mpg in the city. The Environmental Protection Agency claims that the pickup will get 42 mpg.

The new Maverick Hybrid’s highway fuel economy rating is 33 mpg, which translates to a combined 37 mpg. All this for $19,995. These fuel economy figures are much better than the optional 2.0 liter EcoBoost which returns 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The hybrid can cover more than 500 miles (805 kilometers) before running out of fuel. All this for a starting price of $19,995.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz is the only rival for the Maverick. The South Korean small truck that runs on gas only returns 23 mpg more than EcoBoost in its most economical configuration. You can’t combine the hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Instead, you will need to purchase the EcoBoost for AWD.

The hybrid 2.5-liter Maverick produces 191 horsepower and 155 lbft of torque to its front wheels. However, it is worth noting that the Hyundai ute’s naturally aspirated 2.5 liter gasoline engine provides 26 more lbft. Comparing the optional engines is similar. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost produces 250 hp, 277 lbft and the turbo-powered Asian truck makes 31 hp, 34 lbft.

Ford began deliveries of the EcoBoost version of its EcoBoost model last month. However, hybrid deliveries won’t begin until January 2022. The electrified truck will be available to dealers in December. Dearborn automaker says the production run for the 2022MY will have been reserved by November and you might not want to order it until then. Ford won’t be accepting orders for the 2023 Maverick until after that point.

Ford sees the Maverick, which is a more family-friendly car than the Fusion, Fiesta and Focus in the US, as an excellent choice. However, many would still love to see a regular car in the US, especially as both the Fiesta and Focus were updated in Europe. In 2022, the equivalent Mondeo will also be gone on the Old Continent, however, there are still prospects for a replacement, as shown by the new Evos in China.
