Officially revealed 2015 Volvo XC90 SUV

Volvo has finally revealed the second generation XC90 after a huge leak of photos.

After a huge leak of photos Volvo has officially unveiled the highly anticipated second generation XC90.

The all-new XC90 has been Volvo’s most significant model in recent years. Even the CEO of the company stated in an interview that it was the last chance to be a Geely-owned brand. This mid-size luxury SUV has a more elegant design than other SUVs.

The front features the attractive “Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights” and a large chromed grille featuring vertical double slats. The aluminum inserts give the car a more elegant look. The side profile has clean lines and a simple design. It features a large rear window, chrome window framing and alloy wheels up to 22 inches.

Volvo chose a modernized version of the XC90’s iconic taillights. They now look sharper, and fit the model well. A prominent roof-mounted spoiler is included, and depending on which version, there are either rectangle or round double exhaust tips. Volvo will offer dark plastic mouldings for the wheel arches and bumpers, as well as side skirts, to give it a rugged appearance.

The interior cabin has been revealed at the end of May. It features a minimalistic layout with very few buttons. Most knobs have been replaced with a large touchscreen display. It can accommodate seven people on soft-leather upholstered seats. The cabin also features a four-zone climate system, a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins soundsystem and a 1,400-watt, 19 speaker Bowers & Wilkins system. This Swedish marque used aluminum inserts, wood trim, and other premium materials to create the interior they claim is the most luxurious ever seen in a Volvo.

The car will feature a digital instrument cluster, diamond-cut controls for volume/start/stop, and “state of art” voice recognition. Apple’s CarPlay integration is also available. Volvo claims that the third row can accommodate people up to 1.7m tall. Each passenger will have its own storage space. The spacious cabin also features a HERE navigation system as well as an Ericsson-based cloud service.

The 2015 Volvo XC90 will be riding on the Scalable Products Architecture. It will include a wide range of safety equipment like driver alert control, driver brake, road edge detection, driver alert control and lane keeping aid.

The engines have been updated to make the second-gen XC90 the “world’s most powerful, cleanest SUV”. This is due to a new range of Drive E engines that all have four cylinders. The D5 twin-turbodiesel D5 has 225 bhp (162 kW) and 347lb-ft (475 Nm). It returns 39.2 mpg US (47mpg UK, or 6 liters/100 km). The D4 will be available with 190 bhp (1142 kW) or 295 lbft (400Nm) and it promises 56.5 mpg US (47.8 mpg UK, or 5 liters/100 km).

Volvo offers a turbocharged and supercharged T6 turbocharged gasoline engine with 320 bhp (239kW) and 295lb-ft (405 Nm). T5 will also be offered with 254bhp (189kW) or 258lb-ft (355 Nm).

A T8 plug-in hybrid variant of the XC90 will also be available. It features a turbocharged & supercharged 4-cylinder motor that drives the front wheels, and an electric motor that powers the rear axle with 80 bhp (6 kW). The combined output is 400 bhp (298kW) and 472lb-ft (664 Nm). It can travel 25 miles (40 km) on only electric power.

A First Edition series will consist of 1927 Volvos, each individually numbered and powered by the T6 or D5. These cars will only be available online and will feature an onyx-black exterior, 21-inch Inscription wheels, walnut inlays, and an amber Nappa leather seat.

The production of the second generation Volvo XC90 begins in Torslanda (Gothenburg) at the beginning next year. Deliveries are expected to begin in May. The XC90 T6 AWD in the USA will cost 48,900 US Dollars. The T6 First Edition will retail at 65,900 US Dollars and will be available online starting September 3.
