It will be competing against the Citroen C5 X, and the new Ford Mondeo.
The Buick Regal has been discontinued in the United States, but it is still available in other countries. The updated version was for China . Also, the European version was given a facelift. It should be kept in service for at least three more years, but it will be retired and replaced with a new model.
Although the next-generation Insignia won’t arrive until 2024, AutoExpress has already shared details about the future of this nameplate. The vehicle will transform into a crossover, according to a report from the British publication. It will look like a hybrid SUV and traditional multi-purpose vehicle.
Opel’s decision makes sense considering how the Citroen C5 went through a similar transformation and how the next-generation Ford Mondeo is expected to adopt a more SUV-like form. The new Insignia will offer more interior space and likely more cargo space. It also has a higher seating area and more clearance.
AutoExpress claims that the model could be built on the eVMP technology, which will also be used in the replacements for the Peugeot 3008 or 5008. If true, the Insignia could get an electric version that has different battery options and can travel between 250-400 miles. Expect power to range from 135 to 335 horsepower (99 kilowatts)
Opel will be able to offer combustion engines to its customers with the EMP2 platform’s heavily modified underpinnings. You won’t see any pure combustion power as the only ICEs that are available will be mated with electric motors in plug–in hybrid systems. According to Punch Powertrain, the current turbocharged gasoline/diesel engines will be replaced with mild-hybrid units that were developed in collaboration with Belgian engineering firm Punch Powertrain.
Opel is no longer part of GM’s umbrella so we don’t anticipate that a Buick Regal successor will share any mechanical parts with the new Insignia.
