For those who are passionate about the V12 model, there will be a manual gearbox standard.
Pagani introduced the Zonda, their first model, exactly twenty years ago. Geneva is marking two decades since the launch the original V12 monster. Only 140 units were made, including the development mules. Pagani continues to prepare the successor of Huayra, the model launched after the Zonda.
The machine currently bears the internal code C10. It will soon be available in two very different versions. The first will be a classic ICE-powered supercar, with a Mercedes AMG-sourced twin turbo V12 mated as standard with a manual gearbox and a dual-clutch auto optionally. The other is fully electric.
Christopher Pagani (son of founder Horacio) stated that there have not been any prospective or existing customers who are interested in a fully-electric car. He made the comments to Road and Track at the Geneva Motor Show. It is not something that dealers are asking for, but it is something we believe in. This is going to be a huge challenge for us. It will allow us to be creative, proactive and use fantasy. We believe that it’s the right thing to take on, even though it will be very costly.
The biggest problem for the Italian automaker will undoubtedly be the extra weight of the batteries. However, Pagani believes that engineers will do a good job keeping it low. To compensate for large battery packs, the Huayra successor will use a lot carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium.
The C10 (name to be changed as development is completed) version that uses a combustion engine will not have any electrification. It will only feature pure V12 power. AMG’s input ensured that the powertrain would meet all emissions regulations including California’s. This means that it can be imported to the United States without the Show & Display exemption.
Pagani confirmed that the V12-powered supercar would come with a manual transmission. Pagani confirmed that about 70% of customers of the marque are choosing a manual gearbox. It makes sense to keep the stick-shift ‘box available for sale.
