Pebble Beach Auction: Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Will Cross the Auction Block

It is the ninth GTR coupe produced. It only has 896 miles and is in like-new condition.

Do you remember seeing a Mercedes CLK GTR in person? It is evident that it looks great in photos, but you won’t see it live because it is rarest and most sought after car in the world.

Mercedes raced the CLK GTR with the FIA GT championship in 1997. To meet homologation requirements, Mercedes had to create a road version. Apart from two prototypes of the CLK GTR, 26 CLK GTRs were made – 20 coupes as well as 6 roadsters.

One of the coupes will go up for auction at The Gooding & Company Sale this August at Pebble Beach, August 13 and 14. What is the estimated price? It is very expensive at between $8.5million and $10million.

The 1998 model is the ninth production chassis. The car was originally sold to Hermann-Dieter Eschmann, a German entrepreneur, in 1997. It was then sold to a Hong Kong private collector. The current owner of the car, Cheval Trust, purchased it and brought it to Seattle.

The car has been kept in excellent condition as you can see by the photos. The car’s odometer only shows 1,442 km (896 miles). All the accessories that were included at the time of purchase are included: a battery charger and torque wrench and a socket to mount the wheels. When hydraulic jacks have been used, there are wooden blocks that can be used to fix the car. Original documentation is available in abundance.

The Mercedes CLK GTR’s engine is a 6.9-liter naturally-aspirated V12, which was built by AMG. Later versions of the CLK GTR Super Sport’s engine and various versions of the Pagani Zonda used this engine. It produces 604 horsepower (450kW) at 6,800 RPM and 572 pound-feet (775 Newton meters) of torque at 5,250 RPM. The standard GTR can reach speeds of 214 mph (344 km/h) and 62mph (100km/h) in 3.8 seconds.
