Peugeot 1008 render Imagines A Tiny Crossover with A Lion Badge

We need more crossovers.

Crossovers and SUVs continue to dominate the automotive world’s tastes. These high-riding vehicles have made it harder for automakers to abandon the traditional sedan, wagon and hatchback models. Manufacturers are also trying to create new segments and sub-segments that allow them to sell more models.

Now, picture yourself as you would.Peugeot You want to sell more of your products. There’s the 5008 seven-seat family SUV, 3008, and the 2008 crossover. You don’t think that is enough. You want to be able to attract clients who are looking for small city vehicles. Here’s how you think such a vehicle should look.

The attached rendering shows a possible sub-2008 crossover from the French manufacturer. It is tentatively called “1008”. Although we don’t know if the company is actually working on such a high-riding vehicle yet, spy photos taken last summer suggest that a small crossover might be in the works.

Peugeot’s HR1 concept was presented in 2010 (pictured above), and could be used as a basis for the future entry-level crossover. The PSA EMP1 platform was developed in collaboration between Citroen, Peugeot and Dongfeng engineers. A production vehicle could be built on it. This architecture will be the foundation of at least 20 future models from the French conglomerate.

If development costs are low, a tiny crossover could be a great business case. PSA also owns Opel, Vauxhall and other vehicles. This opens up the possibility of selling the vehicle in the Great Britain and Germany markets. PSA has the ability to swap badges with Peugeot’s 1008 or whatever the name of the small crossover is. It can also sell the vehicle in all European markets and China via its Citroen, DS brands.

It could happen in real life. Only time will tell.
