Automotive News As a direct competitor for the Volkswagen ID, the all-electric 308 will launch in 2023. A spokesperson for the French brand said that it was too early to provide more information.
We are interested to know what platform the new EV will be built on. Two main options are available. One is the CMP small car architecture used in the new Citroen C4, which allows fully electric powertrains. It seems unlikely, however, considering Peugeot’s desire to create a better product than the C4.
The upcoming eVMP architecture from Peugeot, which is essentially a battery-electric version of the EMP2 underpinning the new 308, looks more likely. It will be available with the next-generation 3008, which is expected to debut in 2023. The platform could also be used for all-electric 308 models. Nothing is yet confirmed.
The compact hot hatch segment is one niche where Volkswagen is protected from a Peugeot attack. The French brand has made it clear that it does not intend to introduce a 308 GTI/308 Peugeot Sport Engineered on the market, as the demand for fast hatches has “collapsed.”
