Piech Mark Zero Claims 5-Minute Charge For 300-Mile Range

Is this coupe capable of 400 horses too good to be true!

Piech Automotive presented a concept for its new electric sports car, the Mark Zero, at Geneva Motor Show. This is the first of a series of products Piech Automotive will launch over the next three-years.

The electric gran tourer, the Piech Mark Zero, measures 14.2 feet (4.32m) in length. It has a wheelbase 8.6 feet (2.62m), and a height 4.1 feet (1.25m). Three electric motors power the concept: the front motor produces 201 horsepower (150 megawatts), while the two rear synchronous motors produce 201 horsepower (150kW). It takes just 3.2 seconds to accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h), and the top speed is 155 mph (253 kmh).

According to the WLTP scale, the batteries should have a range of 310 miles (500 km) Piech claims that the car has a “completely different cell type” which is able to charge 80 percent in just five minutes. It also heats up very little when loading and unloading. Refuelling takes only a fraction of the time as gasoline. Because of the low heat, the batteries are fully air-cooled. This contributes to a weight savings of around 440 pounds (200 kg). The car’s total weight should not exceed 4,000 pounds (1.800 kilograms).

The center tunnel houses the batteries, while the rear axle houses them. This weight distribution should produce classic sports car proportions. Low-mounted packages allow for a traditional low seating position.

The batteries are supplied by the Desten Group Ltd., a Hong Kong-based company that has extensive experience in battery technology for the consumer sector. Qingdao TGood Electric Co. Ltd., a Chinese and Hong Kong-based company, manages the charging infrastructure. Piech says that they are a leader in charging infrastructure and eHouse solution management. TGood has reportedly installed more than 210,000 charging stations in over 300 cities.

Piech employs two partners and a permanent team made up of experts with extensive industry experience. The new platform was created with the help of around 200 employees. This platform allows for the development of various drive and body variants.

The modular design allows both software and hardware (such rechargeable batteries) to be exchanged and updated. The modular structure allows for other drivetrains than the Geneva electric drive, such as hybrids and a hydrogen fuel cells. The flexible platform will be available to other manufacturers in the future.

There are three vehicle options: besides a two-seater there will be a four-seater and a sporty SUV. You can also imagine other concepts such as convertibles and pick-ups. Although they have not been mentioned, production will be carried out in collaboration with other partners.
