It’s not bad for a 4-cylinder car but not for a 609-horsepower vehicle.
The production of the Polestar 1 is now complete with 2021. Only 1,500 of the plug-in hybrid coupes were made and all had a left-hand drive layout. The PHEV machine is without a doubt one the most unique performance cars in terms powertrain. It was recently taken to the Autobahn for a top speed run on the section where there are no speed limits.
The vehicle, which weighs in at 2,350 kg (5,180 lbs), had a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter gasoline engine. Its acceleration performance was good. There’s more to the Polestar 1 with its four-pot combustion engine. The ICE is supercharged, turbocharged, and works with a pair rear-mounted electric motors.
Polestar’s first standalone model is rated at 609 horsepower and 738 pounds-feet (1,098 Newton-meters) torque. The electric sports car reached a speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) on a damp German highway. The Polestar 1 would have topped out at 100 MPH (160 km/h) if it was in electric mode.
Polestar has not yet travelled this route, despite the fact that Volvo’s parent company has installed a topspeed limiter from the beginning of 2020. The coupe looks to be capped at 155 mph and the electronic nanny would not kick in at that speed. Volvo did not make the S90 Coupe without the PHEV system.
Despite the tremendous torque provided by the electric motors, the 0-60 mph (100 km/h), run was not something to be proud of. Polestar claims it takes 4.2 seconds, but the run was a little slower than that. Some would argue that for $150,000 you are better off buying a Porsche Taycan Turbo.
The now-defunct Polestar 1 GT is still one of the most stunning GTs in modern times and Volvo’s spinoff brand. In the future, the company’s lineup will expand as the Polestar 2 electric liftback, which was built in the USA, will be followed by the smaller, sleeker 3 crossover in 2022, and a smaller, more aerodynamic 4 in 2023. The stunning Precept Gran Tourerarriving in 2025 will complete the Polestar 5.
