Porsche 911 GT3 Shark Blue Paint Was Inspired By A Yacht

This color looks great on a boat, and it is also great on a Porsche.

The Porsche 911 GT3 debuted in an eye-catching paint color called Shark Blue. Andreas Preuninger was on vacation when he came up with the idea for the color.

“I was lying on the Sardinia beach when this beautiful, 300ft superyacht passed me – it was very elegant and had this sparkling blue hull.” Preuninger told Autocar . “I was standing on my feet with my camera because I thought, ‘that’s exactly what we need’, and the rest is history.

Porsche featured Shark Blue in its marketing images of the new 911 GT3. This color highlights the body’s curves. The car doesn’t look too monochromatic with black trim around spots such as the rear diffuser, front fascia, and wing.

American market pricing isn’t yet available for the GT3, so it’s not clear if Shark Blue carries an extra charge or if it’s one of the cheaper options. Porsche has shown a matching color for seat belts and stitching inside the cabin in press photos. If a buyer desires them, they will certainly add to the bottom line.

The GT3’s naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-6 engine produces 502 horsepower (374 Kilowatts) as well as 346 pound-feet (469 Newton meters) of torque. You can choose between a 6-speed manual or seven speed PDK. According to the company, it can travel 60 miles an hour (96 km per hour) in 3.2 seconds. It also has a top speed at 197 mph (317 km/h).

This model has a double-wishbone suspension at its front. Other 911 models have a MacPherson Strut layout. The wheel track is 1.9in wider than the 911 Carrera.

This fall, the new GT3 will be available in the USA.
