Porsche 918 Spyder Successor still not happening before 2025

Different reasons, same timeline

Porsche has been so busy lately. The German automaker is clearly focusing on electrification and future-proofing their lineup, in addition to its attempt to develop synthetic fuels by 2022. The larger Taycan Cross Turismo, which was a huge success, has also been added to the range. We can expect even more electric Porsche models over the next few years.

According to CEO Oliver Blume, Porsche hasn’t been pushing for a new hypercar recently because of this. Blume spoke after the company’s annual results conference Autocar. It would be nice to know that Stuttgart is still looking for a Porsche 918 Spyder successor. However, this is not a priority.

Blume has scuttled any hope of a successor to the 918 Spyder. The head honcho at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show already stated that the Porsche hypercar would be available by 2025, at the earliest. He cited another reason, stating that the battery technology was not suitable for a flagship model.

Blume is consistent in his answers, even though they have different timelines. It is also possible to assume that he was transparent in the past regarding the development of their hypercar.

The question is still open as to whether the Porsche’s upcoming top-spec model will have an all-electric powertrain or an internal combustion engine. We can be sure that whatever the automaker does in the future, it will not be lacking in performance, both in terms of output and battery technology. This is the heart and soul electrified powertrains.

A all-electric Porsche 911 is not coming until the next decade. This is another story we need to keep our eyes peeled for.
