We don’t know everything, but we do get a good view.
The Porsche Cayenne is undergoing changes. This spy shot gives us a glimpse of the future. The Stuttgart SUV will remain recognizable. The spy team was able to catch the prototype in daylight, even though Porsche uses some tricks to conceal details. It’s not enough to prevent us from seeing the bigger picture.
Exterior changes are limited to the front and back, as is the usual case when a vehicle refresh occurs. Cayenne will get slimmer headlights, but Porsche applies bright tape to the black finish to hide the smaller lenses. The new headlights will come with new front fenders as well as a new hood. The latter looks sharper and has a more sculpted appearance, with sharper creases that run rearward from the lights. The front grille is bigger this is a trend among automakers and adds aggression to the Cayenne’s face.
We then turn our attention backwards to the obvious placeholder lamps that will be used for new taillights. Although it’s difficult to predict how the new taillights might look, it appears that the bulk of the light will now be located on the rear quarter panels rather than the liftgate. The liftgate and lower fascia look completely different. The number plate moves low, while the gate looks much narrower.
We have not yet heard anything about interior updates, but we can expect a larger touchscreen. To match the other models, the shift stalk and center console will likely be updated. Information regarding any potential powertrain changes is also still unclear. There’s no reason for the current Cayenne lineup to be slower than it is now, and that should not change.
We come to the timeframes of a reveal, which is also a bit mysterious at this stage. This is the first time we have seen the prototype and it is still wearing placeholder parts so a debut late in the year is likely as either a 2022 model or 2023 model.
